NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has been in a race against time to get the Swan Hill Bridge lift span ready, with the paddlesteamer originally scheduled to pass under the lift span yesterday morning.
Speaking to The Guardian yesterday, PS Adelaide captain Graham Trist said RMS staff expected a “full lift” would be attempted this morning, after a “part lift” was attempted yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after midday yesterday, RMS released an update saying the bridge would be closed between 10am and 12pm due to a scheduled test lift.
“Once the test lift is completed the Paddle Steamer Adelaide and accompanying houseboats will pass under the bridge on their way to Mildura for the centenary celebrations of the Paddle Steamer Melbourne,” the statement said.
“Further testing may be required between 2pm and 3.30pm and the bridge may again be closed to traffic.
“A detour will be available via Nyah.
“Roads and Maritime Services thanks motorists for their cooperation while this important work is carried out.
“Motorists are advised to plan their journey, allow extra travel time and obey all signs.”
