SWAN Hill Rural City Council’s chief executive officer Dennis Hovenden has
resigned.
Mr Hovenden announced his resignation to councillors on Friday,
after accepting a CEO position with the Frankston City Council.
Speaking on
behalf of councillors, Mayor John Katis thanked Mr Hovenden for his passion,
leadership and commitment to council.
Mr Katis said while he was disappointed
to be losing Mr Hovenden, his new appointment with Frankston City Council was
“an opportunity he couldn’t miss”.
“I believe Swan Hill has been a stepping
stone for him and I feel proud to say that,” he said.
Mr Hovenden has served
more than five years as Swan Hill Rural City Council’s CEO, since his term began
in January 2007.
In his new role Mr Hovendon will lead a team of 1100 staff
and manage a substantially larger council budget.
His resignation will be
effective from Friday, October 26 — the weekend of the Swan Hill Rural City
Council general election.
Cr Katis said an acting CEO would be appointed to
take the new council through its induction after the election, and while the
recruitment process for a new CEO takes place.
