African music and dance coming to town

A SPECIAL connection between a local couple and underprivileged Ugandan children will be rekindled next week as the world-renowned Watoto Children’s Choir performs in Swan Hill.

Local residents Tony and Jenny Waldron have been involved in their cause for about a decade and helped build a secondary school during trips to Uganda.

They said while the children they visited would be in university now, the performance and a welcoming ceremony beforehand would still feel like a reunion.

“It’s a celebration of African culture, where these kids, generally orphans, tell their story of hope,” Tony said.

Tour leader of the Watoto Children’s Choir Robert Sendegeya said the choir had been happy to take an invitation to perform in Swan Hill and had enjoyed such reunions everywhere they went.

“It has been really great.”

“People are loving our music and culture and we are happy to be able to come with the children and share it.”
