WORKplace safety inspectors will be knocking on the doors of Swan Hill small businesses all this week in an effort to turn around millions of dollars lost annually through injuries at work.
From today a team of WorkSafe inspectors will be checking health and safety compliance, focusing on a range of workplace procedures, particularly dangerous manual handling and unsafe machines in the construction and agricultural industries.
WorkSafe statistics show over the past five financial years to 2011, there have been more than 580 workplace injuries in the Swan Hill region.
WorkSafe said these injuries cost more than $15 million in treatment, income support and rehabilitation costs.
The inspections follow a WorkSafe information session earlier this month that notified Swan Hill businesses of the upcoming inspections and advised employers on how to prepare.
