TAFE sells the farm for tradies

THE Sunraysia Institute of TAFE has sold the farm to fund an almost $1 million extension of the Swan Hill campus Trade Wing.

To fund the renovation, SuniTAFE tabled the idea of selling their 118 hectare property (about eight kilometres south of Swan Hill on the Murray Valley Highway) in 2011.

The asset was released for tender and private owners of an adjoining property were the highest bidders

Minister for Higher Education and Skills Peter Hall gave notice the property had been sold on Tuesday, September 25.

While the price paid was not revealed, Mr Gammond said the build would cost about $900,000, and the farm sale was “up towards” that figure.

The re-development will include doubling the size of the current engineering workshop, a new classroom and undercover work areas. The total floor space will almost double from 1700 square metres to 2950m2.

SuniTAFE educational business manager of rural trades Alan Gammond said the expansion was needed, with increasing enrolments led by strong interest in Heavy Automotive.
