AS part of ongoing industrial action being undertaken by the Australian Education Union (AEU) at public schools, participating teachers may not include written comments on student reports and withhold information such as test scores from the Department of Education.
The AEU Victorian branch implemented the bans as part of its campaign targeting the State Government over proposed changes to wages and working conditions.
Any information or data relating to VCE, VCAL and VET subjects will be excluded from the bans.
According to an AEU document detailing the specifics of the ongoing industrial action, the purpose of the bans is to deny the education department access to information which it may then use to assess the performance of individual schools and staff, as well as highlight the significant amount of unpaid work staff complete to provide written reports about student achievement.
In addition to the bans, a local union representative told The Guardian that staff in the Swan Hill region will participate in a half-day stop work on Thursday, December 6.
“Victorian public teachers and principals deserve real offers around the major issues of salaries, class sizes, workload and the high levels of contract employment,” AEU Victorian branch president Mary Bluett said.
Although The Guardian contacted a State Government spokesperson for comment, they were unavailable to reply by the time of print.
