Man fined $3500

Troy James Nelson was stopped by police at 1.54pm on April 16 after he failed to stop at a red traffic light in Curlewis Street.

At the time Nelson, 40, was driving a heavy vehicle and was not in possession of his log book.

It was also revealed his licence had been suspended due to the accumulation of demerit points — with the suspension period enforced from November 11, 2011 until July 10, 2012.

Geoff Dunstan, for the defence, said his client was unaware of the suspension and was not carrying his log book at the time as it was located in the truck which he usually drove, which was being serviced at the time of the offence.

Mr Dunstan said Nelson had been driving heavy vehicles for 21 years and didn’t think the traffic light had changed when he was stopped by police.

For all three offences Nelson was fined a total of $3500 and was disqualified from driving for three months.
