New look for gallery

A new coat of paint, levelled flooring and fresh carpet has transformed the once dilapidated Moulamein Art Gallery into a modern hub for local artwork.

Now looking fresh and full of life, the gallery is playing host to more than 100 entries for this year’s photography competition and will open this morning.

Artist and volunteer Chris Bigmore said finishing touches were still being made to the gallery’s kitchen, meaning that the cafe re-opening was still a little way off.

Ms Bigmore said they were lucky to be granted use of the gallery for competition judging last Friday, after a bit of a rush to bring the gallery up to standard in time.

A total of 108 entries were submitted and judged by Swan Hill photographer Jo Sheldrick, the highest number of entries received since the competition began.

Moulamein Primary School principal Catherine Peach entered the photography competition for the first time this year, and said she was pleasantly surprised to find out she had won three titles.
