Auto-obsessed

TRASH is set to become treasure for many at the municipality’s first ever ‘swap party’, but one of Swan Hill’s biggest collectors will not be swapping, not for quids.

Noel Dunn has amassed more than 100 pieces of automotive memorabilia including cars, signs, model cars, fuel bowsers and oil bottles.

The Sun Centre Auto Panels proprietor said his collection compulsion started 25 years ago with the acquisition of a red pedal-car.

“That’s how it started. I never had one as a kid — most people did — so I started collecting them,” Mr Dunn said.

He said his motoring finds came from “all through the Mallee” via the Trading Post, clearing sales and garage sales, but with many items “very collectable” the idea of a ‘Swap Party’ didn’t appeal to him.

“It’s just a hobby to me. I’m not really interested in swapping with other things.”

While it’s not for everyone, budding collectors, bargain hunters or anyone wishing to offload some clutter, Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Swap Party might be worth a visit.

Registration and item drop off will take place from 5pm until 6pm at Swan Hill Town Hall on Thursday, November 8, with the big swap happening from 6pm to 7pm. Contact council for details.

To coincide with National Recycle Week (November 12 to 16), council will also provide an in-town drop off point for unwanted mobile phones, household batteries and printer cartridges at its Splatt Street office from Monday, November 12 to Friday, November 16 during office hours.
