Gift buyers going postal

RECORD numbers of Australians are going online to buy their
Christmas gifts, and Swan Hill’s post office is feeling the strain.

December
2011 saw Australia Post deliver 3 million more parcels than it would in a normal
month.

“We’re now delivering 11 per cent more parcels than this time last
year,” a spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said Australia Post had made sure
they were ready for the surge in parcel volumes over the festive season by
employing extra staff and operating additional hours.

The Swan Hill Post
Office will extend its parcel collection hours of operation Monday to Friday:
8am to 9pm, on top of the normal Post Office hours of Mon-Fri: 9am to 5pm.

The Swan Hill Pioneer Licensed Post Office will also be open Mon-Sat: 9.30am
to 4.30pm for customers to collect their parcels and post their Christmas
gifts.

“We are also delivering parcels on weekends in Swan Hill to ensure
people receive their items in time for Christmas day,” she said.
