Stocking winner

CHRISTMAS came a day early for Mary Presley as the spoils of her
giant Christmas stocking win arrived on Christmas Eve.

Three cars pulled up
to Ms Presley’s home on Monday morning to deliver thousands of dollars worth of
gifts — the contents of Swan Hill’s Giant Christmas Stocking — after her name
was drawn from the back of a ute on Sunday afternoon by Mayor Les McPhee.

The
gifts on offer, donated by about 40 different retailers in the Swan Hill region,
had been piling up in the Giant Christmas Stocking display on Campbell Street in
the lead up to Sunday’s grand prize draw.

Ms Presley said it was a big
surprise to be named as this year’s lucky ticket holder, despite dropping three
entries into various district businesses.

For more on this story, see Monday’s Guardian (31/12/12).
