THE ROAD to the 2013 Fairfax Festival has been rocky so far, after organisers received news of a number of unsuccessful attempts to secure funding.
Recent funding applications for this year’s performing arts festival to Arts Victoria, Regional Arts Victoria and Regional Development Victoria were all knocked back.
Expenditure for last year’s festival was in excess of $90,000 and funded predominantly through donations, grants and council contributions.
Fairfax Festival director Claire Glenn told The Guardian that missing out on the funding was “a setback”.
“But we’re still planning and the festival still happening,” she said.
“All the funding rounds are very competitive and [the benefactors] are fantastic organisations, but they can’t fund everything.”
Ms Glenn said she didn’t want to spoil future plans for the festival, but the funding applications did involve additional enhancements for the 2013 event.
“As with any arts program we’re always assessing what was successful and asking people who come along for their feedback,” she said.
