Police comment on drug cocktail incidents

FOLLOWING reports in Swan Hill Magistrate’s Court of people
taking alcohol while on anti-depressant medication, a medical expert has warned
patients to always confer with their doctors about possible side-effects.

In
recent weeks, a number of people had told Swan Hill Magistrate’s Court they have
consumed alcohol in conjunction with anti-depressant medication, with their
subsequent actions bringing them to the attention of police and the court.

NPS MedicineWise clinical adviser Dr Andrew Boyden said it was important for
anybody taking anti-depressants to discuss with their doctor and pharmacist all
possible effects the medication could have.

“The key message is that any
person who wishes to drink alcohol should be aware of the side-effects,” he said.
