Swan Hill Aboriginal Health Service set for $500,000 upgrade

SWAN Hill’s Koori health services are to be expanded significantly after a half
million dollar upgrade was announced last week.

The service is operated under the auspices of the
Mildura Aboriginal Corporation (MAC), and the MAC chief executive Rudolph Kirby
said it had simply outgrown its existing building.

Mr Kirby said the
expansion had been made possible by the relocation of Vic Roads out of the
building.

“Now it’s finished it’s cleared the way for us to double the
capacity of the GP services, double the hours of the diabetes education program
and double the speech pathology service,” he said.

“In addition we are
planning to provide new podiatry and physiotherapy services, increase our
dietetics and expand our psychology service, including taking a new focus on
post-natal depression.”

The expansion means the Aboriginal Health Service in
Nyah Road will be able to provide a full range of culturally-appropriate
programs.
