NEW data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown a decline in population across the Mallee and south-west New South Wales.
The data highlights population changes in each of Australia’s local government areas by comparing 2006 census information with new data collected during the 2011 census.
Wakool Shire recorded the largest decline in the area, losing 1.9 per cent of is residents during the five-year period between censuses.
The shire recorded a decline of 1.2 per cent during the previous five-year period, with its total population dropping from 4634 to 4365 in the past decade.
Ganawarra Shire recorded the next biggest decline in the area and the largest decline in Victoria based on per centage. It farewelled 929 residents during the five year period.
