REDUCED parking and traffic flow interruptions can be expected in the Swan Hill CBD this month as a major infrastructure project gets underway.
Stage one of the Swan Hill CBD drainage project started yesterday, with contractors working to install underground drainage in McCallum and Campbell streets.
Council’s major projects manager Mazen Aldaghastani said the large-scale project would cause road closures and delays.
For the next three weeks, closures and delays can be expected in the east bound lane of McCallum Street, from Beveridge Street to Curlewis Street.
Both lanes of Campbell Street at the McCallum Street intersection will be impacted until tomorrow.
Mr Aldaghastani said detours would be in place for B-doubles and Higher Mass Limit vehicles for much of the three weeks, but pedestrian access to these areas will remain open at all times.
Swan Hill Rural City Council deputy mayor Greg Cruickshank said an increase in development and hard surfaces in the past 20 years had made the drainage project compulsory.
“It was something that was really brought to our attention by unusually heavy storms in the past couple or years,” Cr Cruickshank said.
