IT TOOK the combined effort of fire fighters from both sides of the Murray River to bring under control a fire which broke out at the Wamba Wamba Local Aboriginal Land Council on Thursday.
Sirens rang out at about 6.30pm, with smoke visible from the Murray Downs and Swan Hill townships.
NSW Rural Fire Service Mid-Murray community safety officer Doug Adamson said some infrastructure had been damaged in the blaze.
“Two hectares of grass was burnt, a nearby shed was scorched and the down pipes burnt off it,” he said.
“And a poly rainwater tank was destroy by the fire.”
Mr Adamson said three trucks and 10 crew members attended the scene, with one truck from the Murray Down RFS and two from the Swan Hill CFA.
He added that, as of Friday afternoon, the Murray Downs brigade was patrolling the area and were on the lookout for still-smouldering timber.
Mr Adamson said it was believed children had been playing with incense sticks prior to the fire breaking out.
