Returned funding likely to help with elective surgery

SWAN Hill District Health is unsure when the Federal
Government’s reimbursement will come, but increases to elective surgery are
likely, according to chief executive officer Ted Rayment.

Federal Health
Minister Tanya Plibersek announced the $107 million “rescue package” late last

District Health chief executive officer Ted Rayment called it “getting back the
funding deducted mid-year” and said no indication had been given to hospitals on
when that might happen.

“Looking at the newspaper, we would expect it would
be happening but we do not have anything in writing to indicate when,” Mr
Rayment said.

“That makes it very difficult for health services to crank up
again what they’ve already planned to crank down.
