SWAN Hill Christians will today join billions of others around the world for a
service with a particularly French flavour.
Swan Hill Anglican Church is
hosting the annual and ecumenical World Day of Prayer and this year’s feature
country is France.
As part of the international Mass, hymns and speeches have
been developed by French churches and distributed around the world.
World Day
of Prayer Swan Hill leader Marg Crilly said the theme, “I was a stranger and you
welcomed me”, referred to the issue of immigration in France.
“It talks about
what goes on in France at the moment, about immigration,” Ms Crilly
said.
“And we hear the voices of immigrants, each one tells their story about
where they came from — some feel they fit in and some don’t.”
Most local
Christian churches of Swan Hill would attend the service, but all people were
welcome, Ms Crilly said.
Beginning in the 1920s, the global God appreciation
day is translated for more than 170 countries to take part.
The World Day of
Prayer service is on at the Anglican Church, McCallum Street, 10am today.
