New kiosk unveiled

THE CBD’s latest green-topped shade structure has been unveiled to a mostly positive reception, with its fundraising functionality to be demonstrated in coming weeks.

Swan Hill Rural City Council staff and builders on Monday opened the structure for public use.

Council approved the structure in March last year, despite many of its user groups unhappy about its proposed design and what they said was a lack of consultation.

After months of construction, the almost-finished structure includes work spaces, secure storage, power, pull-down blinds and a sink with boiling and cold running water.

A council spokesperson said once power was supplied, an official demonstration, involving user groups, on how the structure operates would be held in coming weeks.

Swan Hill Lions Club built the original kiosk in the 80s to assist itself and other community groups hold fundraisers.

Current Lions president David McCallum said he would form an opinion after a demonstration and consulting with fellow members.

“I’m not sure as to what we will be doing about it, whether we will be using it, or just looking at it when we drive down the street.”
