ALP names Mallee candidate

WITH the September federal election more than six months away, the Australian Labor Party (ALP) has named Lower Murray Medicare Local chief executive officer Lydia Senior as its candidate for the Mallee seat.

While the Irymple resident confirmed her endorsement to The Guardian on Friday, Ms Senior said she would be officially launching her campaign later this week.

Ms Senior said one of her key goals was to make the Mallee electorate a marginal seat, in order to attract more funding to the region.

In the 2010 federal election, the ALP’s Mallee candidate Bob Scates secured slightly less than 20 per cent of first preference votes.

For an in-depth interview with Ms Senior, see Wednesday’s edition of The Guardian.
