ELEVEN of Swan Hill’s best young swimmers will strut their stuff on the state stage in Melbourne later this month.
Seven swimmers from St Mary’s, three from Swan Hill primary and one from Swan Hill North primary made the grade after finishing first at the regional titles in Bendigo last week.
St Mary’s celebrated as two relay teams, the 9/10 girls team of Alivia Andrews, Lily Stacey, Alana Bookham, Harliai Curthoys-Davies and open girls medley team of Curthoys-Davies, Ruby Morton, Stephanie Hartshorn and Evie Crawford finished first to qualify for the titles in Melbourne on March 27.
Curthoys-Davies and Crawford also qualified in individual events, with the former winning her age group’s freestyle and backstroke and the latter the same events in the 12/13 girls bracket.
Swan Hill Primary School’s Arlie Atkinson, Edward Robinson and Jun Kim and Brittany Dunstone from Swan Hill North Primary School also qualified for the state titles.
All the students needed to win their regional events to qualify for state competition.
St Mary’s Primary School PE co-ordinator Xavier Kennedy said the school had 16 students compete at the regional titles.
“To have seven go through to the state titles is a fantastic effort from a regional area,” he said.
“It’ll be a great challenge for them to compete against the state’s best.”
