ALL options need to be explored before a decision can be offered on the re-development of Wakool Shire’s council chambers, according to Wakool Shire councillors.
In February councillors asked for costings to be done on a relocation of the council offices to Barham, Murray Downs, Tooleybuc, or a different site in Moulamein, in order to explore the viability of these options.
A report which will further investigate the economic impact on Moulamein is expected to be discussed at Wakool Shire Council’s April meeting.
Wakool Shire councillor Colin Membrey, who instigated the idea of a new office site, said he originally asked for costings to be done on the re-location of the office to a more central site in Moulamein.
“Basically the last council committed money to the re-development of the Moulamein council chambers, but didn’t approve a design,” he said.
“Our job is to make sure the money is not spent on a whim — if we are going to commit ratepayers money we need to make sure we are committing it wisely.”
Wakool Shire Council previously voted to renovate the existing council chambers for cost purposes.
