THE Country Women’s Association celebrated a milestone anniversary in Swan Hill
this week, with plans for their fundraising efforts to continue well into the
next decade.
Close to 30 members from CWA branches across the Murray Valley
region came together on Monday to celebrate 85 years of the organisation’s
establishment in Victoria.
Memories of years gone by were discussed over a
home-made spread of quiches, sandwiches, devilled eggs and other classic picnic
goods at Riverside Park.
A birthday cake was cut and the members, who hailed
from Koraleigh, Balranald, Nyah, Woorinen and three different branches in Swan
Hill, sang an enthusiastic rendition of the birthday song.
CWA member Esma
Thompson said the 85 year milestone was definitely one worth celebrating, and a
good chance for women across the region to get together.
“It’s worth
celebrating because we are still here,” she laughed.
