Coffey’s big break

APPRENTICE jockey Harry Coffey is going from strength to
strength, both on and off the track.

His latest achievement came on Friday
night, when the year 12 St Mary MacKillop College student was awarded the
inaugural Academy Graphics Regional Achiever Award as part of the 2013 Victorian
Young Achiever Awards.

Surrounded by a table of 10 close friends and family
at a presentation dinner at Etihad Stadium, he was the youngest candidate to
receive an award among six winners in different categories.

The 17-year-old
apprentice jockey said he wasn’t expecting to win, as he was up against a group
of impressive finalists including fellow Swan Hill young achiever Tom
Dullard.

“I was very surprised, there were some fairly outstanding people
that were nominated for it,” he said.

“I think people tend to think higher
of me than I think of myself.”

Harry said part of his $2000 in prize money
from the award would be donated to a local charity for multiple sclerosis
sufferers, run by finalist Tom Dullard.
