Nyah residents raise speed fears

NYAH residents have banded together in a bid to lower speed
limits along River Road.

Residents of the low density residential street said
the issue required urgent attention, noting it was all too common to see
motorists exceeding the speed limit while travelling on the road.

Local
resident Deb Coburn only moved into the street at the start of the year but said
excessive speed along the road had been an ongoing issue for residents for some
time.

“We’re getting together as neighbours and trying to do something about
it,” Ms Coburn said.

“We fear for the safety of our children, pedestrians and
slow moving road users as the traffic travels at frightening speeds and we do
not want a tragedy.”

With many children residing in the area, Ms Coburn said
community safety was a priority.

“The cars just scream along there,” Ms
Coburn said.

“It’s pretty dangerous.”

Currently the speed limit along the
road is 100km/h apart from a small section between Church Road and Thwaites Road
which is 60km/h.

Residents hope these speed limits will be reduced to 60km/h
between Church Road and Thwaites Road and 80km/h from Thwaites Road to the
highway.
