WHEN the next edition of the White and Yellow Pages is delivered
across Swan Hill from next week, residents may be surprised to see a familiar
face on the cover.
Former Swan Hill mayor David Quayle will grace this
year’s phone
book in recognition of his role as the Healthy Minds Network
founder.
Now running for close to a decade, the Healthy Minds Network was set
up by Mr Quayle in response to a public meeting on mental health attended by 600
people following a spate of local suicides.
The network connects local
residents struggling with depression or mental health issues to support services
in the region and has helped to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
The Swan Hill resident said he was humbled to receive the “completely
unexpected” accolade.
“I got a phone call nine months ago from someone
asking if I was nominated, would I be prepared to take it — I still don’t know
who it was that nominated me,” he said.
“I was elated and have been humbled
by it, it’s something that I think will help to spread the word of the Healthy
Minds Network.”
