GUARDIAN reporter Clair Morton will get a taste of extreme poverty next week
when she lives on $2 of food a day.
The Live Below the Line anti-poverty
campaign will see The Guardian journalist joining 1.2 billion people around the
world in living on $2 a day.
Participating in 2011, Ms Morton said the
experience was an eye-opener.
“On the last day I was pretty excited about
being able to eat everything again,” she said.
“I did the challenge for five
days knowing that I could tuck into a delicious meal of my choice when it was
all over, but there are more than a billion people who don’t have that freedom
of choice.
“It makes you appreciate what we normally take for
granted.”
Ms Morton has raised more than $300 so far for the five-day
challenge, adding to a national tally of more than $650,000.
