Still running smoothly

ANOTHER successful May carnival finished at Swan Hill Bowls Club on Wednesday.

While inclement weather visited the district on a couple of days, it failed to dampen the spirits of enthusiastic local and visiting bowlers.

“It was excellent. One of the best carnivals in a while,” tournament secretary Bill King said yesterday afternoon.

“People were very happy and I’ve already taken a lot of entries for next year.

“People keep coming back because they love what goes on here.”

King said he was grateful to a number of people for the smooth running of the eventagain this year.

“There’s a lot of hard work involved for myself and for the kitchen staff, the ground staff, the greens keeper, the office staff, bar tenders, everyone — and I’m very grateful to them.”

King said 220 bowlers was the most the Swan Hill club could have going at one time.

“And we had that most of the time through the carnival,” he said.

“There are players that play every day.”

And now King’s thoughts are already turning towards preparations for the 2014 event.

“I just want to thank everybody for coming and we look forward to next year’s carnival,” he said.
