Swim qualifications

TWO local swimmers have qualified for the School Sports Australia national swimming championships.

Angus Verbeek and Harliai Curthoys-Davies were among 300 short-listed to represent Team Vic, and their names were still on the list of some 100 swimmers when the final squad was announced.

The five day carnival will be held in Adelaide in September, with Verbeek set to compete in an incredible 10 individual events, while Curthoys-Davies will take on four.

Both will swim in three relays.

Success at state championships back in March contributed to national selection, with Verbeek winning a gold and silver medal and Curthoys-Davies two silvers.

Anthony Davies said Verbeeks’ and his daughter’s selections were testament to their commitment to the sport.

“The kids are selected over performances for the year. Commitment and endeavour are factored in — it’s a multi-faceted selection policy,” he told The Guardian on Monday evening. Davies said the selection also made the decision to travel to Bendigo for coaching worthwhile.
