Two brave cancer crusaders combine

AFTER a year-long encounter with cancer, Bec Herman will complete
her final treatment the day before AFL star Shane Crawford is set to pass
through Swan Hill on a ride to raise money for the Breast Cancer Network
Australia.

For 34-year-old Bec, and her family, the last twelve months have
been a long and tiring journey.

After finding a lump in her breast, Bec’s
life underwent a dramatic change.

“I was sent to Melbourne with a surgeon in
Melbourne, and he said you need to come in Tuesday next week, and you’re having
a mastectomy because you have breast cancer,” she said.

The diagnosis was
completely unexpected.

“I didn’t fit what I thought were the risk factors: I
wasn’t old enough, I had years of breastfeeding behind me, I just didn’t fit the
category. Even when I felt the lump, cancer was not my first thought.”
