FOR Balranald local Alex Comitti, circus stunts and physical theatre are more
than just a hobby, they are a way of life.
The 17-year-old has spent the last
10 years teaching himself stunts and tricks, and now has the chance to share his
love of performing with other young artists.
This year he was lucky enough to
become the Young Artist in Residence (YAR) with the Fairfax Festival, a series
of workshops, activities and performances aimed at young people.
It will be
the sixth year he has been involved,but the first time as the artist in
residence.
He said he was looking forward to the role.
“They’re showing
me the ropes and how to get it going and what is actually behind the scenes,
instead of just showing up and going on stage,” he said.
“I finally get to
see what goes into making it happen, it’s a lot different.”
Alex first became
interested in circus and physical theatre after seeing an advertisement on
television for some stilts and he has definitely got his money’s worth, with the
stilts still in continuous use 10 years later.
