QUAMBATOOK methodically muscled its way past Moulamein to the tune of 91 points on Saturday in round seven of the GRFL.
The result saw the Swans still without a win after seven outings this season.
The Saints remain fourth on the ladder, although sterner tests await in the coming weeks against the likes of Ultima, Nullawil and Wakool.
Saturday’s victory was all down to quality finishing in front of goal by the locals, along with attacking variety, especially in the first half.
Quambatook coach Paul Messer booted seven majors, with Hamish Guidice supplying three, along with Josh Blair.
Aside from the tackling from both sides, it was the crisp work inside 50 courtesy of Canning, Guidice and Messer that stood out.
Paul Valvo summed up the first quarter for the Swans — a well-taken possession turned into an ineffective, sprayed kick that was meant for a team-mate but intercepted instead.
Morson’s two majors both came in the opening term, some 12 minutes apart, and Andy Branson — while often double-teamed — was the only other Moulamein forward to look most likely up to the first change of ends.
Quambatook’s well-coordinated attack could afford Guidice time to try a trick shot off the outer side of the right boot.
It went through.
The Saints’ forwards were simply out-sprinting the Swans’ backline into scoring position.
With seven goals in the account by quarter time and a five-goal lead, it was more of the same from Quambatook at the restart.
The Swans were second to the ball around the ground for much of the afternoon.
It was a case of first-in, best-served and the Saints scoffed on a buffet of possession.
By the main break, Quambatook was comfortably up by seven clean kicks, but Moulamein refused to lie down and accept defeat.
Swan resistance became futile, as Messer again kept claiming unchallenged marks against a tiring defence.
It made the final term a mere formality, as the home side piled on 11 more majors to Moulamein’s solitary six-pointer.
