FORMER Swan Hill councillor Yvonne Jennings is clearly passionate when it comes
to the representation of women in government.
During her seven years as a
councillor, she was a national ambassador for the Year of Women in Local
Government and saw the Victorian Local Government Women’s charter passed.
In
2006 Ms Jennings received the RIRDC Rural Women’s Award for Victoria, and last
year she was inducted to the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll.
Now she can add
another accolade to her list — a life membership with the Australian Local
Government Women’s Association (ALGWA).
Ms Jennings was awarded the honour of
life membership during an ALGWA state conference in Euroa last week.
“To me
it was a total surprise, to be made a life member of any organisation is a real
honour,” Ms Jennings said.
“I cant remember what they said because I was too
busy blubbering into my serviette.
