More than 120 competitors from across Australia will converge
on Sea Lake at the weekend ahead of Sunday’s Mallee Rally.
This year marks
the 40th anniversary of the event and will see record entries compete in the
350km course around Lake Tyrrell.
Despite heavy rain across the Mallee in
recent weeks, clerk of the course Joe Marshall said competitors could expect
near perfect racing conditions, with the track in great shape.
“It’s a little
bit slippery at the moment but by Saturday it should be really good,” Mr
Marshall said.
Sea Lake resident Ricky Hannig is preparing to come out of
retirement for this year’s race in celebration of the 40th anniversary.
The
long-time competitor completed his first rally in 1979 in his EJ ute.
