Bikers head ‘up the guts’ of Australia

HEADING straight “up the guts” of central Australia on a dirt
bike is all in a day’s work for a group of Albury-based riders.

The group of
six motor and dirt bike riders call themselves the 76ers, and recently passed
through the Mallee on their way to South Australia.

Supported by the
Australian Institute of Personal Trainers, the trip will take them from Albury
to Adelaide, straight up to Darwin and then back through Queensland and the ACT,
before returning home.

They will cover 11,000km in total. Just over 1000km
has been completed so far, taking them through New South Wales, Victoria and
into South Australia.

Participant Jason Dawson said the group passed through
Swan Hill on Tuesday morning.

“We stopped for lunch and had a look around
town, but we had a fair few kilometres to make up so we moved on,” he
said.

Titled ’76ers Up the Guts Tour’, the name relates not only to the route
on which they are heading, but also their cause.

They are raising money for
the NSW Cancer Council, in particular for research into bowel and ovarian
cancer.
