Rivalry revisited

ONE of the Central Murray Football Netball League’s most enduring rivalries will have its latest instalment when Swan Hill hosts Tyntynder tomorrow.

For the sixth placed Swans, it’s a game the brains trust has targeted for weeks as a must-win match for Swan Hill’s finals hopes.

Getting out of last week with the four points and no injuries was a relief for coach Xavier Moloney who said he was pleased with the Swans’ win over Lake Boga.

“It was probably our most consistent game played for the year – the result, how we played; was pleasing,” he said.

“Obviously our biggest rivalry is in this game and we’ve targeted it for a few weeks as a must-win game to make finals.

“It’s always big against Tyntynder and we pump ourselves up for it.”

Moloney said if weather was wet tomorrow he had reason to be confident in his side.

He said that despite losing a fortnight ago in heavy rain he had been pleased with his team’s performance.

“Going on the Kerang result, we played reasonably well in tough conditions,” Moloney said.

The Swans coach said the weather might also determine the key match-ups.

He said if it was dry the Swans would need to keep a close eye on the likes of key forwards Brad Carroll and Ben Fuller but if wet, Moloney said the midfield would be central to the contest.

“If it’s wet that might take ((big forwards)) out of the game and it becomes a battle of midfields with lots of stoppages.”

Selection will also present some tough calls for Moloney thanks to the strong form of the Swans’ reserves.

“We had a good night on the track on Tuesday and lots of blokes who have been playing in the ressies have been in good form,” he said.

TIP: Tyntynder by three points.
