Farrer candidates line up

COMPETITION for the electoral seat of Farrer is heating up, with the emergence
of two new candidates for the upcoming federal election.

Gerogery-based Ron
Emmerton, 50, will run for the Palmer United Party, while the Democratic Labor
Party has chosen 28-year-old Brendan Cattell to stand for the Farrer
electorate.

Mr Cattell, a father of four from Albury, said his key platforms
included a focus on the family “as a cornerstone of the Australian society” and
ensuring that Australian resources profited Australian people.

“I’ve sat
back and watched the last two governments slowly destroy our country in terms of
manufacturing, mining and farming,” he said.

“I don’t want my kids growing
up like that and I don’t want their future to look like that.

“Strong
families make a strong country and communities, and that stems to supporting the
worker and trying to give the little guy a voice.”

Health and skilled
learning were also noted by Mr Cattell as items of importance.

“I don’t know
[incumbent member] Sussan Ley personally but I think she’s got to conform to the
National/Liberal Party policies, which sometimes don’t necessarily support the
general Australian,” he said.

“It’s been a safe Liberal National seat for
many years… I want to challenge that and keep the bigger parties honest.”
