FOR bearded mates Phil Cerbu and Anthony Tutuian an off-the-cuff idea has turned
into an 8000km charity bike ride on postie bikes around Australia to raise funds
for child rights organisation Save the Children.
Their journey began in Narre
Warren North in Victoria just five days ago and the pair have already notched up
more than 1000km on their journey.
But after just two days’ travel, Anthony’s
bike blew a gasket, leaving Phil with the task of towing his mate and his bike
more than 100km down the highway — reaching speeds of just 45km/h — before they
were able to get a lift 20km out of Swan Hill.
While stopped in Swan Hill on
Monday, they said the hospitality they had received in the town had been
exceptional, with their saviours even treating them to a tour around town before
dropping them at their accommodation for the night.
After staying the night
in Swan Hill, the pair had their bikes repaired at the local mechanic’s before
continuing on their way to Mildura.
They now expect to be able to make it to
Alice Springs, their next lengthy stay, before needing any repairs.
