Students give back

A GROUP of Swan Hill College students lent a helping hand in Geelong last week,
coming out of the experience with a new attitude toward a serious societal
issue.

Three Swan Hill College staff and 22 students headed to Geelong for
work experience, as has occured over the past three years, however this year
there was a profound difference to the regular programme.

Students were
offered the opportunity to give back and perform volunteer work during the
week.

Students volunteered at least once during the week in one of three
organisations under the Feed Geelong program, volunteering at The Outpost,
Geelong Food Relief program and Christchurch Community Meals program.

Swan
Hill College careers assistant Heidi Haberman said the volunteer work had added
a new element to the experience.

“It was offered as an extra experience and
to give back to the Geelong community,” she said.

“It was really humbling for
all of us, that was a real eye opener.”
