Trewin to contest Farrer

KATTER’S Australian Party candidate for Farrer Ken Trewin has offered
“experience, hope and knowledge” in a fight for the Murray Darling
basin.

Prominent Queensland politician Bob Katter announced the Barham real
estate business owner and former Wakool mayor as his latest candidate in
Deniliquin on Friday.

Despite the celebrity crossbencher flying in for
Friday’s launch, Mr Trewin said his election campaign would be largely
self-financed.

About 100 people attended the launch, many offering support
through establishing local party branches across the vast
electorate.

Involved in local government for 23 years, Mr Trewin has been a
long-time advocate of Murray River communities and was the inaugural Murray
Regional Organisation of Councils chair.

Without pulling any punches, the
candidate was Katter-esque in a withering attack on the larger parties’
treatment of the region.

“The last 10 years has seen the dismantling of
agriculture, which is an absolute blight on Labor and LNP who have not stopped
with the destruction of Australia’s food chain.”

He also called Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd a “recycled PM with no message”, former environment minister
Tony Burke an “absolute disgrace” and questioned the recent record of current
Farrer member Sussan Ley.
