Crunch time for finals aspirants

Mallee Eagles v Swan Hill

THE most pivotal game of the year so far in terms of shaping the top five will be played at Lalbert tomorrow.

Just two points separate fifth placed-Swan Hill and sixth placed-Mallee Eagles, with the lower side having the advantage on percentage.

Eagles coach Jamie Macri said his side had been put through a big month or so on the track after losing a number of games they considered winnable at three quarter time.

“Look, we’ve lost three or four game where we’ve been in positions to win at three-quarter-time, so we decided to step up our training a bit,” he said.

“So there’s probably six or seven guys that need to get fitter so that as a team we can run out those games better.”

Swan Hill’s Callan Beasy and Hugh Foott will stand in for Xavier Moloney who will be away playing for Vic Country this weekend.

Beasy said Moloney would be the only absentee against the Eagles.

“We got off to a good start (against Tooleybuc Manangatang last week). We haven’t done that all year, so that helped,” he siad.

“We’ll need to play like that every quarter to beat Lalbert.”

TIP: Mallee Eagles by five points.
