Lake Boga home destroyed

A BLAZE that destroyed a Lake Boga home yesterday was a reminder for homeowners
to install suitable water fittings, fire authorities said.

The fire at a Long
Lake Road property, north-west of Lake Boga, was reported just after 3am
yesterday.

Lake Boga, Lake Charm and Swan Hill fire-fighters arrived to find
the fibro cement home fully engulfed.

The crews took about an hour to bring
the fire under control, with police also attending the scene.

The property
was vacant at the time and fire investigators attended the scene this morning to
determine the cause of the fire. A wide perimeter was set by the authorities, as
it was believed the house contained asbestos.

CFA Lake Boga brigade captain
Michael Tempini said delays in accessing water and shutting off power slowed the
fire fighting effort.

“There was some arcing around the power box and
underground wires. Powercor disconnected the power, then we were able to put it
out.”

Mr Tempini said after the trucks’ limited water supply ran out, CFA had
attempted to adapt their hoses to the property’s water tank, but it did not have
a standard outlet.

“Even after finally connecting, the water came through
with low pressure,” he said.

“We want to push the importance of having CFA
fittings on tanks.”
