TECHNOLOGICAL advances in trolleys are helping supermarkets avoid the
frustration and cost of trolley dumping in Swan Hill.
Recently Coles began
using trolleys with a wheel lock system in an attempt to limit the problem.
Under the system, a low level electric signal eminating from a perimeter
antenna creates a barrier around the site.
If a trolley goes past the
barrier, the wheels lock, making it difficult to push the trolley.
Swan Hill
Coles supermarket manager Scott Quirk says the system has worked brilliantly for
Coles.
“We don’t have an issue now with lost and dumped trolleys,” he
said.
“Our staff also help customers take their trolleys to their cars if
they are having trouble.”
