Power shift on youth agenda

CLIMATE action was on the agenda last weekend as four Swan Hill representatives attended Australia’s National Youth Climate (AYCC) Power Shift summit in Melbourne.

Organised by the AYCC, Power Shift brought together 1500 young Australians passionate about sustainability and climate change.

Monique Williams, 19, attended the event and said it had inspired her to lobby for change at a government level.

“We went to the summit because we wanted to make sure climate change is on the agenda in the upcoming election, and learn more about how our community can be part of the solution,” she said.

Attendees heard from climate change speakers that included Tim Flannery, Lucy Lawless and NASA’s James Hanson, an internationally prominent and outspoken climate scientist.

A question and answer session was conducted with major political parties fielding questions from those present.
