Man dies in Lake Boga collision

A SWAN Hill man has died in a collision at an intersection near Lake Boga on
Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Quambatook and
Ultima-Lake Boga roads (about 10 kilometres west of Lake Boga) about
11.20am.

The 85-year-old from Swan Hill was driving a Mitsubishi utility
vehicle, heading south on Quambatook Road, as a Strathdale man was driving a
Corrolla sedan west on the Ultima-Lake Boga road.

Head of Swan Hill Police’s
traffic management unit Les McPhee said a give way sign was applicable to the
Corolla driving west.

Sergeant McPhee said it appeared the Swan Hill man was
not wearing a seatbelt.

The 85-year-old was thrown from the ute’s cabin and
died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, a man aged in his
20s,was taken to Swan Hill hospital for observation.

The intersection was
closed to traffic as Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives investigated
the scene on Wednesday.

Sergeant McPhee said investigations were continuing,
with the speed of the cars unknown.

The Swan Hill man’s identity has not been
released.

Victoria’s provisional road toll stands at 135, 14.1 per cent below
the mark set at this time last year (156 fatalities).

Last year’s annual road
toll was 282.
