Three cheers for Hoges’ 400th

THE day after playing his 400th senior game at Balranald, Brenten Hogan was again pulling on the boots as the Swan Hill Kerang Rams took on Castlemaine.

Hogan represented the Tigers’ senior side at Greenham Park with the visitors coming away with a big win before heading to Wandella yesterday for the less competitive hit-out.

But while he was receiving plaudits from across the footy region — a tribute through Woorinen’s Facebook page received well over 300 likes and scores of comments — a modest Hogan said there was no great secrets behind his longevity.

“I don’t know, I’m probably a bit lucky. I keep reasonably fit… Sundays are just a good day to jog out the soreness from Saturday’s game,” he said.

After getting his start in juniors at Birchip, Hogan has represented Woomelang Lascelles, Lalbert and Nullawil before crossing to Woorinen in 2009.

He has had stints as senior coach at Nully and the Eagles, while at Woorinen he has previously coached the colts before taking on the under 13s this season.

He said yesterday there was light at the end of the tunnel for Balranald.

“They’ve got a good bunch of young blokes, they just need a couple of experienced blokes around them,” Hogan said.

“We kicked inaccurately in the first quarter which didn’t allow us to get away. But once we started kicking goals we were on our way.”

As for his footballing future, Hogan — who turns 40 next month — said the Swan Hill Kerang Rams would probably be his main stomping ground now.

“I’m at the end of my tether now [with senior football]. I’m just playing when asked to play,” he said.

For the record, the Rams went down by a couple of straight kicks to Castlemaine, but the family day at Wandella was deemed a success.

“It was played in good spirits. We’ve got a good relationship with them now, which is good,” he said.
