WHEN Max Brereton and his wife Valerie’s three biological children grew up and
began to move out of home, naturally Valerie noticed a huge change in her
lifestyle.
With more time on her hands and plenty more love to give, she
stumbled upon an advertisement looking for people to take care of foster
children.
She immediately got in contact with the organisation and the couple
welcomed into their home another three lovely children.
Raising them just
like their own, they also grew up, became independent and moved out of
home.
In their 18 years of fostering children, the couple have welcomed 11
children into their Swan Hill home.
“We did it on the condition that our
biological children were okay with it,” Mr Brereton said.
“I think they were
happy that we were doing something with our time.”
Raising the foster
children just like they were their own, Mr Brereton said his wife was always
teaching them new things and helping them with their homework while he was at
work.
He ran his own business creating signposts for all sorts of companies
and organisations, including the TAC.
