On the national stage

SUZUKI’S Matt Moss and Yamaha’s Luke Styke were leading the main categories of the Monster Energy MX Nationals after the event’s eighth round at Swan Hill at the weekend.

The round saw up to 2000 spectators converge on Chisholm Reserve to see Australia’s best motocross riders strut their stuff on Sunday.

Teams arrived in Swan Hill on Saturday with riders’ off-track support staff setting up pit areas and competitors signing on before a briefing on Saturday night.

After racing, Styke said the facility had lived up to the stature of the event.

“The track was very good. It’s one of the deepest soils I’ve ever ridden in. The track is deep,” he said.

“The corners go really deep.”

“The overall result was great but you’ve always got to keep looking forward to the next round, but at the end of the day Swan Hill was awesome and thanks to the club for putting on a great meet.”

On his standing in the competition, Styke said he would keep pushing to the end of the series.

“It’s not over until it’s over and we’ve just got to keep looking forward and keep pushing,” he said.

Swan Hill Motorcycle Club (SHMC) president Dean Rickard said Chisholm Reserve had impressed visitors to the event.

“The track was awesome and the whole surrounds were fantastic — they were most impressed with our facilities,” he said.

“There’s always room for improvement but… we’re on the right track.”

He said about 110 riders had taken part in the round all told, with room in the program for professional, amateur and local riders alike.

“It was a very broad range so no one was disappointed,” he said.

Riders now head to Queensland for round nine at Toowoomba on August 25, with the series concluding at Coolum on August 31 and September 1.

SHMC expects to find out in coming months whether it will be awarded a round in the 2014 series, Rickard told The Guardian yesterday.
