Funding for road upgrade

ONE kilometre of the Murray Valley Highway near Lake Boga will receive a face-lift as part of a $170 million Victorian Government package to improve the condition of Victorian roads.

A total of $405,000 has been allocated to the program which will see a strip of the highway just north of Lake Boga to Castle Donnington upgraded.

A further $147,000 has been earmarked for works on the Bridgewater-Serpentine Road just south of the Loddon River Bridge near the Loddon West Road.

Member for Swan Hill Peter Walsh announced the funding earlier this week, and said the upgrades would improve the safety of motorists on these roads.

“With the Murray Valley Highway a vital freight route between Melbourne, and the prime agricultural region of the state’s north, ensuring a safe journey for all road users is very important,” Mr Walsh said.

“As part of the repairs, road surface stabilisation and restoration works will be undertaken involving ripping up the existing deteriorated road surface, stabilising the road and re-sheeting it.

“Improving the road’s smoothness and durability for all vehicles will also help to prolong the road’s life.”
